Our Story

A Family. A Fifth Wheel. A Leap of Faith.

We are the Lawings, a full-time RV family of four chasing big skies, scenic mornings, and the life we actually wanted.

We Sold Everything. Zero Regrets.

We’re Andrew and Rachel. We live full-time in a fifth wheel with our two kids, and we have no plans to stop.

For a long time, our life looked like it was supposed to. House on 3 acres in Texas. Mow the grass, run the errands, count down to the weekend, wonder where the weekend went. We weren’t unhappy. We just kept saying “someday” about the thing that mattered most, real time together, not fragmented leftover time at the end of a long day.

Then we took a summer trip that changed our life.

We hitched up our bumper pull and headed to the Texas coast for what was supposed to be a short getaway. We stayed four weeks. The kids played outside every single day. They used their imaginations in a way they never did at home, where they each had a room full of stuff to disappear into. It wasn’t one big moment but a combination of small things, stacking up quietly, day after day. We actually sat down together at the end of each day without the pull of everything we hadn’t gotten to yet.

When we drove home and pulled into the driveway, the 3 acres of grass was waiting. The kids walked inside and within ten minutes had every toy they owned spread across the floor. The house absorbed us back into the old pattern before we’d even unpacked. That first night home, we looked at each other and just said it -we don’t need any of this.

So we made the call. In August 2024, we sold everything. The furniture, the house, all of it. The last things to go were Andrew’s rocks, minerals, crystals, and specimens he’d collected from all over the world, a hobby that had quietly turned into a small business. He sold the bulk of it and the rest went into storage. We still rockhound at almost every stop. It’s part of who we are.

There was no perfect moment to pull the trigger on any of it. We were more afraid of never doing it than of doing it wrong.

Since then, it’s been a lot of firsts. We’ve backed into sites that were definitely not built for a fifth wheel, picked up mail at general delivery post offices, and had neighbors we’d known for two hours offer to watch the kids.

We said we’d try one year of this life. That year came and went. Then another. Neither of us has any plans to stop, and if you asked us today to picture ourselves back in a house with a yard and a routine, we genuinely couldn’t. We sometimes miss the safety net of having our own place. We don’t miss sitting still. We don’t miss the day-in, day-out sameness of it, the normal we couldn’t figure out how to want anymore.

That’s why we’re here. Welcome to WanderLawings.
